It is with immense emotion and deep gratitude that we, Mélisa Parenteau and Sébastien Joncas, co-owners of Signature Mélisa Parenteau Spa Urbain and Fleuriste Fleur de Guy in Buckingham, have accepted the challenge of being the Ambassadors of the Gala Robe Rouge 2025 for a second consecutive year.
This cause is not just a mission for us. It is deeply rooted in our story. We have both been affected by heart-related challenges that have changed our lives.
Sébastien's Struggle
Sébastien lives with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, a condition present from birth that causes heart arrhythmias. These electrical short circuits between the atria and ventricles of his heart have caused him terrifying symptoms: shortness of breath, overwhelming fatigue, palpitations, and even chest pain. In 2023, a sudden crisis led him to the hospital urgently. There, he had to undergo a procedure to burn the connections responsible for his arrhythmias. A genetic reality he was unaware of, but which has transformed his life
Mélisa's ordeal
For Mélisa, everything changed in 2021. Two pulmonary embolisms suddenly threatened her life. A blood clot reached her lungs, depriving her of air. The doctors had to intubate her urgently. Every second counted. But a complication caused a cardiac arrest for 45 seconds. 45 seconds that felt like an eternity. Thanks to the incredible determination of the healthcare professionals, Mélisa was saved. She remained intubated for six days and spent two months recovering. A tremendous shock for us, for our families, for all those who love us.
These challenges have opened our eyes to the importance of research, fundraising, and especially mutual support. We realized how every donation, every gesture of support can make the difference between life and death.
A heartfelt commitment
When Jo-Anne proposed that we be Ambassadors this year, we did not hesitate for a second. It is a mission that is close to our hearts, a way for us to give back, raise awareness, but above all, save lives.
Our teams, our families, and our friends support us in this beautiful adventure. We will work tirelessly to organize inspiring events and mobilize the generosity of all. Together, we firmly believe that prevention and awareness are the keys to protecting lives.
